Saturday's Douchebag You Should Know About: J.D. Vance

There are a lot of reasons to be scared of this guy. Here’s just one to focus on: his “Protect Children’s Innocence Act,” which he introduced in July of 2023. Look at this unbelievable statement regarding gender affirming care: the act he proposes would “ban the genital mutilation, chemical castration, and sterilization of innocent children by classifying the performance of so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ on a minor as a Class C felony.”

Anyone who knows anything about gender affirming care knows that literally none of these acts occur in its application.

Also, here’s a sweet tidbit:

Sophia Nelson, one of Vance’s friends from college, recalls that back when she had top surgery, “he had been supportive of their transition. Nelson recalled a time shortly after they had undergone top surgery in which Vance brought them home-baked treats as a recovery gift.”

And if you want to really get into it, here is an Atlantic article by Tom Nichols published way back in 2021 titled “The Moral Collapse of J.D. Vance.” It’s a great read.

Nichols reminds us: “Vance wrote, in this very magazine, that Donald Trump ‘is cultural heroin’—a powerful charge from someone who hails from the epicenter of the opioid epidemic—and provided a “quick high” that could not fix what ails the country. All of that vanished once Vance decided he wanted to go to Washington—and after the Trump supporter Peter Thiel dropped $10 million into a political action committee.”
